While we’ve covered the importance of roof and gutter de-icing systems for roofs and gutters, there are other elements of commercial and residential structures that also require winterization.

nVent RAYCHEM offers specialized application  Systems designed for windows, roof drains, pedestal mounted pavers  and suspended metal surfaces such as stairs, walkways and catwalks.  These areas poses unique challenges in accumulating snow and ice that can cause safety issues for people and structures.  .

What Are nVent RAYCHEM Specialized Application  Systems?

We provide de-icing solutions for  these areas with the following systems:

  • RIM DrainTrace (RIM-DT)
  • Window Mullion Heating (WMH)
  • Pedestal Mounted Paver Heating (PMPH)
  • Suspension Mounted Heating (SMH)

These systems utilize high wattage self-regulating cable in engineered panels and offer efficient, high performance heat to melt ice and snow.

Keep Roof Drains free from Snow and Ice

A blocked roof drain during winter can lead to many problems and costly repairs. If the blockage is not addressed quickly, the drain will continue to falter during periods of heavy ice and snow.

A reliable drain trace system transfers heat to the snow and keeps the area around the roof drains free of build up.

RIM-DrainTrace is a complete system to trace roof drains.  It includes RAYCHEM IceStop heating cable, connection kits and pre-cut RIM panels for a fast reliable, and elegant system to keep your roof drain free of snow and ice.  It’s easy to install with the snap-fit system parts that snap on to each other; eliminating field riveting and roof penetrations.  This simplifies the process and reduces field installation time.

Keep Windows Free of Condensation

Condensation forms when an interior surface becomes colder than the dew point of the space.  Since cold air holds less water vapor than warm air, the excess water vapor will condense when the temperature of the air decrease.

To stop condensation, the RAYCHEM Window mullion heating system (WMH) is designed to heat the mullions to prevent condensation on the window surface between the mullions or to melt snow around the roof mullions. WMH  is typically installed directly on the surface of the mullions to provide efficient, uniform heat transfer to the heated surface. . The system is comprised of self-regulating cable technology and an aluminum tray. It is also completely concealed, meaning they are both effective and aesthetically pleasing.

RAYCHEM WMH are ideal for libraries, museums and art galleries where there are lots of windows incorporated into the building design.

Keep Pedestal Roof Pavers free of Snow and Ice

Pedestal roof pavers are often installed to make roofs and plazas safe for pedestrians and simplify repairs. However, winter can create a significant buildup of snow and ice below these systems and lead to safety concerns.

Pedestal Mounted Paver Heating (PMPH) is a complete snow melting solution designed to be installed under the pedestal mounted pavers. The system utilizes high wattage self-regulating cable installed in an engineered aluminum tray assembly offering efficient, high-performance snow melting that keeps your pedestal mounted pavers free of snow and ice.

Keep Suspended Mounted Surfaces Safe to Walk On

Metals stairs and walkways are especially susceptible to ice and snow build-up, and can become extremely hazardous in winter conditions. RAYCHEM Suspension Mounted Heating (SMH) is a complete snow melting solution designed to be installed under suspended metal surfaces such as stairs, walkways and catwalks.

The system utilizes high wattage self-regulating cable installed in an engineered aluminum tray assembly offering efficient, high-performance snow melting that keeps your suspended surfaces free of snow and ice.

There are many different elements to roof and surface systems, and it’s important to have a reliable heat trace solution in place to keep your home or business safe during Winter months.
