Raychem winter safety and performance solutions are helping enable one of the largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) projects in the world.

Located on the shore of Russia’s Yamal Peninsula, the Yamal LNG plant is intended to tap the vast natural gas resources the region has to produce over 4 billion barrels of oil. Approximately 16.5 million metric tons of LNG will be produced and shipped out through the nearby ports for worldwide distribution. Over 200 wells have already been drilled to help produce vast amounts of oil that our world requires.

While the Yamal LNG plant is a long-term solution for LNG production, it does bring a set of challenges, most notably its location. Located along the northern shores of Russia, the plant sits in a remote region that is both far away from other densely populated areas well as being in a climate that is typically frozen for over half the year.

Working in climates with extremely cold temperatures is a potential hazard, which requires safe and reliable heat tracing technology. Raychem freeze protection and temperature maintenance solutions were commissioned to help ensure smooth operations in one of the most extreme environments in the world.
