“nVent has many career opportunities for veterans and promotes development so people can transition into roles of increased responsibility.”

Katrina, a director of operations in nVent’s Electrical & Fastening Solutions (EFS) business segment in Aberdeen, North Carolina, transitioned successfully from the military to the civilian workforce many years ago. Joining the company in 2012, she found a place where she could apply her military skills and grow her career. At nVent, she found an environment that encourages employees to bring bold ideas, be authentic, and build the future of a more sustainable and electrified world.

Katrina credits nVent’s culture and values for her ability to demonstrate her strengths to benefit the organization. She says her military service is a vital part of her identity, shaping her leadership style and allowing her to connect with others on a similar path.

Katrina currently co-leads our Veterans Employee Resource Group (ERG) whose mission is to build awareness of the unique perspectives and skills veterans bring to the workplace. Let’s delve deeper into her inspiring journey.

What is your former branch of service and military specialty (MOS)?

US Army, 25S (satellite communication system operator).

Why did you choose to join nVent?

I joined ERICO, now a part of nVent, in 2012. I chose ERICO for several reasons: 1) the location was close to home and 2) I wanted to be able to use my military experience in a way that allowed me to grow my career using the skills I gained in the military, while learning to translate them to the civilian workforce.

How did you discuss your military experience and the transferable/technical skills you possess when you interviewed at nVent?

One of the highlights of my interview process was being able to translate my experience as a trainer for the Army Equal Employment Opportunity Program (EEO) and how that would benefit me in an HR role. The other transferable skills I had were related to the leadership experience that I had obtained while running a team in the Army.

How do you incorporate your military service into your personal and professional brand currently?

I speak openly about my military service because it’s an important part of my personal and professional life. It allows others with a similar career path to relate to me. It also helps to explain my leadership style.
