“Don’t be afraid to get involved. There are so many aspects to your career other than your actual job.”

Choosing the right company to start your career can be daunting, especially as a new college graduate. For Claire, a supply chain leadership development program participant in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, working at nVent was the perfect step forward. She joined our team in 2022 and has already overcome many fears and doubts.

After graduating, Claire needed to understand exactly what she wanted to focus on within the supply chain industry. A deep exploration was required and our rotational leadership development program created the ideal learning opportunity. “I chose to join nVent because of the supply chain and operations leadership development program (SOLD),” she shared. “The program provided me with the opportunity to learn about and experience three different roles within nVent’s supply chain organization.”

In the first year, Claire collaborated with the sourcing teams, contributed to process improvements, and assisted with tool designs. Her second rotation as a production supervisor at one of our busiest facilities in Anoka, Minnesota allowed her to grow professionally. She worked hard to gain hands-on leadership experience and expanded her insight into how our products are made. Now, in her final rotation, she is focused on operations planning for our Enclosures business segment, partnering with planning teams across North America on various projects.

Entering the workforce as a young college graduate was intimidating initially, but Claire exuded optimism as she embraced the challenge. She found that having a supportive team made all the difference and was reassured by how her teammates lived out our Win Right Values, particularly Respect and Teamwork. “There has never been a time when I asked someone at nVent for help or advice, and they said no,” Claire emphasized. “Putting myself out there to connect with my peers and ask questions has never led me down the wrong path.”

Claire believes that nVent’s people-first approach sets it apart from other companies. She has witnessed how employees thrive personally and professionally when encouraged to balance the demands of life. “It is widely acknowledged and talked about that what is best for the employee’s life is put before what is best for their job,” she explained. “I have never had an issue taking the time or space I need so that I can return to be my best self within my role.”

The inclusive culture at nVent fosters growth and development, especially for early-career professionals. “There are so many leaders at nVent who are willing to help people early in their careers,” said Claire. “With mentoring programs and early career groups like the Charting Courses employee resource group (ERG), there’s no shortage of opportunities to connect with experienced professionals.”

A piece of advice that Claire frequently shares with others is to get involved to connect deeper. “Don’t be afraid to get involved,” she stated. “There are so many aspects to your career, other than your actual job.” She advocates for building relationships through ERGs, volunteering, attending company-sponsored events, or grabbing lunch with teammates to open doors to new opportunities.

Ultimately, Claire finds inspiration in the principles that guide nVent and the forward-thinking perspective of its leaders. The company’s commitment to innovation, inclusion, and growth creates a vision for a bright future. She looks forward to graduating from the program and transitioning to a non-rotation, permanent role at nVent soon.
